Train the Trainer Open Course

Introduction to the Award
This is a hands-on, challenging and enjoyable programme of development leading to the ILM Train the Trainer Endorsed Award.

This course is aimed at employees who are new to training or experienced trainers who want to refresh or update their skills and knowledge. This is also suitable for training specialists or supervisors who need to deliver training as part of their job role. We focus on the development of practical training skills.

Overview of the Process
This programme is delivered using a blended learning approach and involves online learning and pre-course work, followed by two days of intensive training in a workshop.

Throughout this programme, the learner is supported by an appointed Polaris Learning consultant.

Learner Commitment
Step 1 Online Learning
Two weeks before attending day 1 of the training workshop, the learner would be given access to our online and blended learning portal PLUS to complete a short training and coaching skills course.

This is around 3.5 to 4 hours of learning.

The online modules within the course are:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Training and Coaching
  • Module 2: Identifying and Planning Learning
  • Module 3: Delivering and Reviewing Learning

Step 2 Workshop Preparation
The learner will be required to prepare a short ten minute presentation which they will deliver during day 1 of the training workshop. The learner will also be asked to prepare a short ten minute demonstration which will also be delivered during day 1 of the workshop. This preparation will help the learner to achieve the standard required by the ILM.

Step 3 Training Workshop Day 1
The learner will then attend a one day training workshop where the focus will be on presentation skills and one to one training in the workplace. The learner will be required to deliver their presentation and demonstration to their fellow group, and receive structured feedback from their Polaris Learning consultant as they master training delivery.

The focus would be very much on the practical elements as the learner will have completed the theory on PLUS beforehand.

Step 4 Assessment Planning
On completion of workshop day 1, the learner will then be given time away to finish any work outstanding on PLUS, and practise any areas they feel they need to work on in preparation for their final assessment on day 2 of the training workshop.

Step 5 Training Workshop Day 2
The learner will then carry out their final assessment. The learner will have the option of delivering either their presentation or demonstration for final assessment.

The learner will then deliver to the group again, focusing on improving on the feedback given from day 1 of the training workshop.

Lastly, the learner will then complete a short knowledge assignment before completing the course.
